History

The Healthcare & Nursing Education Foundation (formerly the Visiting Nurse Association of Houston Foundation) was formed in 1994, associated with the acquisition of the Visiting Nurse Association of Houston (VNA) by the Methodist Healthcare System, Houston.  At that time the Foundation received its separate nonprofit status and the former VNA board of directors became the new Foundation board of directors.  Subsequently, a determination by the Internal Revenue Service was secured for the Foundation to be a private foundation.

The Foundation's purpose is to support the care of individuals requiring health care, particularly in the underserved areas of the community, to make educational grants to students majoring in nursing and to promote the creation of new models for the delivery of health care.
